The case of four women, including a pregnant woman and a girl, belonging to the Irular tribal community near Tirukovilur in Kallakurichi district has been sexually abused by the police for more than 10 years. It is a matter of concern and pain that not even the amended chargesheet has been filed in this case which has shaken the conscience of Tamil Nadu, said Pamaka founder Ramdas.

Pama founder Ramdas issued a statement today:

A Jay Beam in Tirukovilur on the same day 10 years ago

“Exactly ten years ago, on the 22nd of November, the Tirukovilur police arrested and interrogated Kasi, a resident of a dark house in the Mandapam area next to Tirukovilur, which was part of the integrated Villupuram district.

The men then took 9 people, including 5 women from the Dark Residence, to the police station in two vehicles, alone and women alone. The guards drove the vehicle carrying only the women into the forest, where 4 women were allegedly sexually assaulted.

One was pregnant and the other was a girl who showed no mercy

One of the victims was sexually assaulted; Another is a 17-year-old girl. They were not only sexually abused but also intimidated in various circumstances and tried to prevent them from complaining about it. The case was registered only after the women lodged a complaint at the police station.

With 10 years to go before such a lawsuit is filed, no progress can be made on that case. The police are said to be the reason for the delay in the case.

False accusation filed a few years ago after a long delay

Criminal cases usually have to be filed within 90 days. However, the chargesheet was filed a few years back after a long delay in the Tirukovilur Dark Women sexual assault case. The court directed the police to dismiss the allegations in the chargesheet.

Charge sheet not yet filed

However, the police have not filed the revised chargesheet in the court till date. If the amended indictment is filed in the court, then the case will be transferred to the Villupuram Violence Prevention Special Court for further investigation. Even if the amended indictment is filed now, it will take a year or two for the trial to be completed and the verdict to be handed down.

Police disrupting 10-year investigation

The denial of justice is the fact that it has already been 10 years since tribal women were sexually abused and that they still have one or two years to get justice. But there is no doubt that the police’s suspension of the amended indictment without even giving it a chance is an act that will disrupt the investigation of this case.

Those who have been laid off are back on the job

The guards charged in this case were initially dismissed, but later rejoined the service using loopholes in the law. They are still working. The police seem to be delaying the case in order to save them. It is not fair to deny justice to women who have been subjected to sexual abuse and are physically and mentally abused after 10 years.

The case is well known to DGP Silenthrababu and should be brought to an end

The present Director General of Police, Silenthrababu, is well aware of all the details of the Tirukovilur Dark Women sexual assault case. He was the Northern Regional Police Chief at the time of this deadly incident. He was also the one who sacked the guards involved in this case. Only then did the victims receive assistance, including compensation. Knowing all the facts about this case, he has a duty to bring this case to a natural conclusion.

Request to the Government of Tamil Nadu

Dark Women should immediately file a revised indictment in a sexual assault case. The Tamil Nadu government should then take action to transfer the case to the Villupuram Special Court for Prevention of Torture and convict the culprits, ”he said.
