Four bowlers, including Indian spinner Ravichandran Aswin, have been nominated for the ICC ‘Test Cricketer of the Year 2021’ award.
Along with Ashwin, England captain Joe Root, New Zealand’s Paul Kyle Jamison and Sri Lanka’s batsman Timothy Karunaratne have also been nominated. The winner will be announced on January 24.
In Test cricket in the last one year, Aswin has taken 52 wickets in 8 matches at an average of 16.23. He also has 337 runs at an average of 28.08.
Ashwin, who started the Sydney Test against Australia this year with 29 off 128 balls, helped Hanuma Vihari to a draw. Thus the continuation became equal.
He then went on to win the Man of the Match award for his 32 wickets at an average of 14.72 in the Test series during England’s tour of India. Next, he took 4 wickets in the final against New Zealand in the World Test Championship.
Ashwin, who was unbeaten in Tests during India’s tour of England, then went on to take 14 wickets for an average of 11.36 during New Zealand’s tour of India.
