Ecuador had a great day at the 2023 Parapan American Games with 4 gold medals in the Para athletics discipline.
Sixto Moreta in the men’s 5,000 meters (T-13), Marco Antonio Churuchumbi in the shot put (F40/F41), Poleth Méndez in the women’s shot put (F20) and Kiara Rodríguez in the long jump (T47) won their respective tests, also delivering the first four gold medals to our country in this multi-sport event.
In addition to the gold medal, Kiara Rodríguez broke the Pan American record in her event (5.94 meters), repeating the gold she obtained in the 2019 Parapan American Games.
In the women’s shot put event, Ecuador made it 1-2 with Poleth Méndez winning the gold (13.91 m) and Grecelly Padilla taking the silver medal (12.05 m).
The Ecuadorian delegation currently occupies eighth place in the overall medal table with 4 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze medals.
