Saumya Kumarawadu, president of the Ceylon Electricity Board’s Association of Engineers, has warned of a power outage due to fuel shortages and water shortages.
He added that he was asking the public to be prepared to face 4 hours of power outages a day.

The Ceylon Electricity Board has only 3000 metric tons of diesel available for about two or three days.
Also, the lubricating oil, which is only needed for 22 days, is in the electrical board’s warehouse.
Accordingly, after three days, the Ceylon Electricity Board will have to implement a power cut to reduce the demand for electricity.
If this is not done, the balance of the electrical structure cannot be maintained.
Hydropower generation is defined as the need to manage water, taking into account agriculture, drinking water and the environment, during the process of hydropower generation.
He added that due to delays in the construction of approved power plants and the cancellation of new power generation projects, there were no alternative power plants within the country to bring the power supply back to normal in the event of a power cut.
