The 76th Senior State Swimming Championship was held in Chennai. Some people including swimmer Vikas from Madurai participated in this. At the end of the competition, Vikas won 4 medals namely gold in 50m breaststroke, gold in 200m butterfly, silver in 100m butterfly and bronze in 100m breaststroke. Through this he was selected for the national competition to be held in Guwahati, Assam.
A state level swimming competition was held at Coimbatore on behalf of Bharatiyar University. In this, Madurai swimmer Meenakshisundaram won the individual champion title with 5 medals namely gold in 400m breaststroke, gold in 50m, 100m, 200m backstroke and silver in 200m butterfly. Annapoorni also won 2 medals – silver in 200m press stroke and bronze in 100m butterfly. Yuddhika won bronze in 50m press stork.
State Swimming Association Vice President Stalin Aarokiaraj, Madurai District Sports Officer Raja, Madurai District Swimming Association Secretary Kannan and coach Nagaraj felicitated the players and women who achieved record in state competitions.
