Investigations indicate that those involved trafficked 16 tons of marijuana for the main faction in Rio.

The Federal Police launched “Operation Drake” this Thursday (19), which arrested four civil police officers accused of selling 16 tons of marijuana to Comando Vermelho, the main criminal faction in Rio de Janeiro. The state Public Ministry also accuses the agents of corruption.

In today’s action, around 50 federal police officers serve five preventive arrest warrants and six search and seizure warrants, issued by the 1st Criminal Court of the District of Resende/TJRJ. The warrants are served in the capital of Rio de Janeiro and in Saquarema/RJ, at addresses linked to criminals, already reported by the Public Ministry, as well as in the city of the Civil Police, specifically at the Robbery and Cargo Theft Police Station.

According to the investigation, two vehicles from the PCERJ Robbery and Cargo Theft Police Station approached a truck loaded with 16 tons of marijuana on the border of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.

After escorting the truck to the Civil Police city, the civil police negotiated, through a lawyer, the release of the narcotic cargo and the release of the driver, upon payment of a bribe.

With the completion of the criminal pact, three ostentatious vehicles escorted the truck to the approaches to Manguinhos, a community linked to the main criminal faction in Rio de Janeiro. Then, the load of marijuana was unloaded by the criminals.

The investigation was carried out by the PF Sensitive Investigations Group (GISE/RJ) and the Drug Repression Police Station (DRE/PF/RJ) in conjunction with the Public Ministry, through the Resende Criminal Investigation Prosecutor’s Office and with assistance of prosecutors from other bodies in the Rio de Janeiro park.

To comply with the warrants, today, the PF had the support of the PCERJ Internal Affairs Department.

The name of the Drake operation refers to the English pirate and privateer Francis Drake who plundered caravels transporting stolen material and believed himself free of blame due to the illicit origin of the goods.
