from Paolo Baldini

The films are shown until 30 September in the review “Le vie del cinema”

The first movie is a cartoon, is titled Research, directed by Elena Baldoni, Flora Dovigo, Giulia Falci, Corrado Signoroni, Massimo Vignati. A scientist very serious enters a classroom very severe, in black and white, and a lesson begins very rigorous describing “homosexual people”. Everyone takes notes, diligently. In the end, a young woman objects: “Prof, but they are the same as everyone else.” The wording suggests: “You don’t need science to understand.” Second video, title Mirror, directed by Marta Scutellà. It is a fun raid through signs, colors, changes of clothes and looks, graphic transformations beyond any gender limit, beyond any prejudice. Because “if you want to be free, you cannot give in to prejudices by adapting your image to the expectations of others”. Third movie, Pizza by Arianna Mangone. Micro-story of a gay relationship announced to parents in front of a Margherita. “Love in all its forms unites us, especially at the table”. Fourth spot, Victory by Martina Arrigoni. Petanque challenge between two elderly couples. Mr. Brambilla pulls the winning shot and celebrates with a kiss to his partner. Embarrassment, reflection. Applause. “The demonstration that it is never too late to overcome prejudices”.

Consolidating a commitment to civil rights which has lasted for years, these days, the films of the new pro Lgbtq + social campaign “Orient ourselves to respect”, promoted through students and teachers, by the Luchino Visconti Civic School, arrive in the cinemas of Milan for the review “Le vie del cinema”. A tradition, an opportunity for reflection and to cut the taboos. The idea from which the initiative starts is that “despite the Stonewall riots in 1969, awareness of the LGBTQ + community has made great strides, especially in the West, the acceptance and protection of those who define themselves as” queer “is not by no means taken for granted: prejudices, discrimination, homophobic behaviors are unfortunately still on the agenda, and in Italy, even from a juridical and legal point of view, the regulatory vacuum to be filled is still enormous ». After violence against women, food waste, racism, bullying the binge drinking and the plastic emergency, this time the Luchino Visconti Civic School of Cinema claims respect for gender identity and sexual orientation.

The campaign, through an educational operation with its deliberately light and playful tones, it is aimed at the youngest – primary school, pre-adolescents, adolescents and young adults – but also at parents, teachers, educators and institutions. Renewing a multi-year collaboration with Agis Lombardia, the four spots – Victory, Pizza, Research, Mirror – are proposed until 30 September in the Milanese cinemas during the course of The life of cinema, the show that brings the best of international festivals to Milan. The authors of the campaign are the third year students of the Film and Audiovisual Art and Technology course tutored by professors Carlo Sigon, Carlotta Tessarolo and Arianna Pregagnoli.

The music was curated by the students of Music for the Image of the Civic School of Music Claudio Abbado. Made in collaboration with Arci Gay and Berne Center for transactional analysis. The Luchino Visconti Civic School, active since the early 1960s from the 2018/19 academic year, issues a Diploma equivalent to the Bachelor’s Degree in Art and Technology of Cinema and Audiovisual. Directed by Minnie Ferrara, it is part of the Milano Civic Schools Foundation, participated body of the Municipality of Milan that operates in the field of Higher Education, and is an active member of Cilect, the world association of schools and universities of cinema and television.
