There are some Fashion needs or Muslim fashion which is in accordance with sharia. Actually, there are many references about it fashion Muslim women in written sources such as the Qur’an and the Hadith of the Prophet Shallallahu alihi wa sallam.
In Islam,it is indeed the main function of clothing cover the private parts as mentioned in Surah Al-A’raf: 26:
O children of Adam,We have sent down to you garments to cover your loins and your fins.
“O son of Adam,indeed We have sent down to you clothes to cover your private parts and your stunning clothes for decoration.” (QS Al Ar’af: 26)
Imam Qurthubi said in Tafsir Qurthubi; This verse is proof of the obligation to cover private parts. The students’ opinion regarding the obligation to cover the private parts is not the same. They just have different opinions about what bodily boundaries are considered aurat.
Islam itself does not prescribe certain clothing styles for its followers. The faith leaves it up to the person to be creative in clothing as long as they follow Islamic rules.This means that although Islam does not explain in detail the models of Islamic clothing, Islam does explain the general rules and ethics of dressing that must be understood and practiced.
The criteria for muslim fashion or fashion, according to Syaik Abdul Wahhab Abdussalam thawilah in the book ‘Guide to Islamic Dress: Appearing according to the Directive of the Al-Qur’an and As-Sunnah’, is that the most important to Muslims.Women’s clothing is that it meets the legal requirements according to Sharia, that is, it must cover the whole body except what does not need to be covered, it does not act as jewelry (ie not adorning itself), the fabric is thick, not thin, not to mention see-through, the size is wide or not tight, not too tight. Shows the curves of the body,not perfumed or perfumed,not like men’s clothes,not like pagan women’s clothes,and not libas syuhrah (clothes that attract people’s attention).
Outline criteria or guidelines fashion for Muslim women:
1. Personal parts must be covered
The first principle is the basis for Muslim women’s fashion to say that it is indeed according to Islamic law.
sharia to cover private parts has been there since the time of Prophet Adam Alaihissalam and Siti Hawa when they both touched the tree which was forbidden by Allah SWT.
This is found in surah al-A’raf: 22,
When they tasted the tree, their inner parts became visible to them, and they began to cover themselves with leaves from Paradise.
“(That is, immediately and quickly) when both of them had tasted the fruit of the tree, both of them appeared, each other’s private parts and began to cover it with the leaves of Paradise in layers,” (QS Al-A’raf: 22 )
Then another hadith was narrated from Aisha Radhiyallahu-anhu, that she said:
“Indeed, Asma Binti Abu Bakar came to see the Messenger of Allah, may God bless him and give him peace, wearing thin clothes. The prophet, peace be upon him, immediately turned away from her and said, “Asma, if a woman has reached puberty, nothing but this and this has been seen from her. He moved to her face and palms.” [HR. Abu Dawud]
In another hadith it is also that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said;
“Whoever sees private parts, should cover them.” [HR. Abu Dawud]
“There are two groups of people who are the inhabitants of hell, which I have never seen before; that is, a group of people with whips like the tails of cows used to harm mankind; and the woman who exposed her private parts and was dressed in thin clothes, she was waking up to wander and act, her head rolled up like a camel’s hump.They will not be able to enter heaven and smell it. Indeed, the fragrance of heaven can be smelled so far away.” [HR. Muslim].
2. Not transparent and not intense
The fashion worn should not be visible, so as not to show the shape or curves of the body that should be covered. As, indirectly, transparent clothing means that it does not cover the private parts.
The choice of color and material of clothing determines whether the clothing is transparent or not, especially when sweating or raining. Therefore, when buying fashion, Muslim women are strongly advised to choose good materials so that they are not transparent.
In a Hadith narrated by Imam Muslim, it is said as follows;
On the authority of Abu Hurairah, he said: The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: “I have not seen two types of people of hell, people with whips like the tails of cows. ” They will meet people with him, and women, clothed and naked, bent and bowed, their heads like the humps of camels bent, they will not enter Paradise, and they will not smell their perfume, and the smell of their perfume from such and far.
Abu Hurairah said: “Two (types of people) from the people of hell that I have not seen now, such as; those who carry whips like the tails of cows, they beat people with them, and women who are clothed but naked, walking with a trot, their heads are like the humps of camels.
3. He is not like the opposite sex
In a hadith found in Sahih Bukhari, it is said as follows:

Interview between Time.news Editor (TNE) and Fashion Expert in Muslim Clothing (FMEC)
TNE: Welcome to Time.news! Today, we are diving deep into the fascinating world of Muslim fashion and its adherence to Sharia. Joining us is an esteemed expert in this field, Dr. Amina Rahmani. Dr.Rahmani, thank you for being here with us.
FMEC: Thank you for having me! It’s a pleasure to discuss such an crucial topic.
TNE: Let’s start with the basics. How dose islamic tradition influence the fashion choices of Muslim women?
FMEC: Islam places great emphasis on modesty. This principle is articulated in various sources, including the Qur’an and Hadith. For example, Surah Al-A’raf emphasizes the need for clothing to cover one’s private parts, and this becomes a guiding principle for many Muslim women when choosing thier attire.
TNE: It sounds like there are specific guidelines. Can you elaborate on what constitutes appropriate Muslim fashion?
FMEC: Certainly! According to Islamic legal tradition, clothing should cover the entire body except for the face and hands. The garments must also be loose-fitting and made from non-transparent fabric. this restricts the likelihood of clothing being considered ornamental, ensuring that the focus remains on modesty.
TNE: That’s an interesting point. So, does that mean there is no room for creativity or personal style in Muslim fashion?
FMEC: Not at all! While there are guidelines to follow, islam encourages personal creativity within those constraints. Women can express their individuality through colors, patterns, and even the choice of fabrics, as long as they adhere to the Sharia requirements.The beauty of Muslim fashion lies in its diversity and how it can reflect personal identity while honoring religious principles.
TNE: What challenges do you think Muslim women face in the fashion industry today?
FMEC: A meaningful challenge is the misconception that Muslim clothing is monotonous or lacks style. This is further compounded by limited representation in mainstream fashion sectors. However, we’re seeing a shift, where more designers are creating stylish, modest clothing that resonates with a diverse audience. Education and awareness around these responsibilities can help reshape these perceptions.
