New Delhi: On Saturday night, 30 to 40 Bangladeshi intruders tried to enter India from seven different border areas on the India-Bangladesh border in West Bengal. In one case, a BSF jawan was also attacked while trying to foil the intruders’ attempt. These incidents are being considered one of the biggest incidents of infiltration in recent times.

BSF jawan spotted the intruders
BSF said that a big case of infiltration has come to light. On the India-Bangladesh border adjoining 24 Pargana district of West Bengal, 10-15 Bangladeshi intruders tried to enter India near Amudiya border post. Here, a BSF jawan posted in night shift saw them. The jawan immediately alerted his fellow jawans on the radio set. The BSF jawan ran after them to catch the intruders, when three-four unknown attackers hiding in the field tried to attack the jawan. The jawan threw a stun grenade to disperse them. Despite this, the intruders attacked the jawan. Then the jawan fired and the intruders took advantage of the darkness and tall crops and ran away.

Attempts to infiltrate these areas
Similarly, attempts were made by Bangladesh to infiltrate in Maluapada, Haldarpada, Banpur and Matiyari in Nadia district. Cattle smugglers also tried to infiltrate near Charamrashi in Murshidabad district and Sasni border post in Malda district. All were armed. After these incidents, BSF also held a flag meeting with Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB).

River, drain and area without fencing are a challenge
Actually, the reason behind these attempts of infiltration in West Bengal through the India-Bangladesh border is the spread of rivers, streams and in some places, the border area without fencing. From here, the infiltrators try to enter India from Bangladesh. Experts say that such incidents of infiltration from Bangladesh to India happen almost every day. Many times, due to the lack of BSF jawans at some points and the open border, the infiltrators are successful in their attempts. Efforts are being made to stop infiltration with the help of more modern technology.
