An event dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the death of the outstanding Azerbaijani conductor and composer, People’s Artist of the USSR and Azerbaijan, laureate of the State Prizes Maestro Niyazi was held in the Alley of Honor, Day.Az reports.

Prominent public figures, representatives of culture and science, creative intelligentsia and youth came to honor the memory of the great musician. Flowers were laid at the grave of Maestro Niyazi.

The speakers noted that Niyazi made a great contribution to the musical culture of Azerbaijan, and his name is associated with the formation of the Azerbaijani national conducting school. Along with the fact that Niyazi was an excellent conductor, he was also a remarkable composer, whose works are still heard and loved by listeners today.

It should be noted that Niyazi was born on August 20, 1912 in Tbilisi in the family of the famous composer and theater figure Zulfugar Hajibeyli, brother of the great composer, founder of Azerbaijani classical music Uzeyir Hajibeyli. Niyazi is a descendant of a famous musical dynasty, became the first Azerbaijani professional conductor to receive worldwide recognition. The formation and development of the Azerbaijani conducting school is associated with his name.

Bulbul, Rashid Behbudov, Muslim Magomayev, Lutfiyar Imanov and other outstanding performers shone on stage accompanied by the orchestra under his direction. Maestro Niyazi died on August 2, 1984 in Baku.
