The Public Ministry of Honduras has confirmed the death of at least 41 women after a brawl occurred this Tuesday at the Women’s Center for Social Adaptation (CEFAS). Initially we had been given the number of 25 people, but we were told that this was a preliminary number. Now the Forensic Medicine teams give us another preliminary figure, (…) they tell us about 41 people, said the spokesman for the Public Ministry, Yuri Mora, in statements collected by the newspaper Timeinforma Europa Press.

The brawl allegedly broke out between prisoners from the Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) and the 18 Gang. According to preliminary information, a group of members of the 18 Gang began shooting and later set fire to several modules of the prison. The victims are all women, and range between 20 and 60 years of age. Mora has assured that a list of injured people must still be made, since a large number of inmates are hospitalized at the Hospital Escuela.

We are not going to tolerate acts of vandalism or irregularities in this prison. Immediate intervention is authorized with the accompaniment of firefighters, the National Police and the military. An emergency is declared, the Honduran Vice Minister of Security, Julissa Villanueva, has indicated on her official Twitter profile.

For her part, the president of Honduras, Xiomara Castro, has announced the dismissal of the Minister of Security, Ramón Sabilln, and has appointed Gustavo Sánchez, who has been serving as director of the National Police, as the new minister; Sabilln will take a position in the Honduran foreign service, reports Efe.

My solidarity with family. I summon the Minister of Security and the president of the Intervention Commission to render accounts. Take drastic measures! Castro emphasized. The Honduran Foreign Minister, Eduardo Enrique Reina, condemned the terrible criminal acts that occurred in the Támara Penal Center and his solidarity with the families of the victims. This demonstrates the great escalation of the conspiracy against @XiomaraCastroZ by the dark forces that turned Honduras into a narco-state, he added.
