Muscat: 424 prisoners in various jails in Oman have been released. The Oman Lawyers Association’s ‘Fak Qurba’ scheme has released 424 prisoners during the month of Ramadan. The benefit is available to those who have been imprisoned in the country due to financial constraints.

A total of 31 people could be released from prison in the southern Al Batinah governorate, 120 in the northern Al Batinah governorate, 46 in the Al Daikilia governorate, 160 in the Muscat governorate and 67 in the Al Buraimi governorate. The Oman Lawyers Association (FOA)’s Fak Qurbah project was created with the aim of providing another opportunity to those serving prison sentences for failing to meet their financial obligations.

More than 100 lawyers in Oman are volunteering for the Fak Qurba project. The Omani Lawyers Association, in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Welfare of Oman, has been running the project since 2012, and many people have already been released from prison.
