43 companies to recruit Indonesian domestic workers in Saudi through single channel

Dammam: Saudi Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development (MHRSD) spokesman Saad Al Hammad said 43 companies will be allowed to directly recruit Indonesian domestic workers through a ‘single channel’ system.

Saad Al Hammad said that protecting the rights of the parties involved in the agreement and increasing the close monitoring of the ministry will be under an electronic channel system between Saudi Arabia and Indonesia.

He clarified that the single-channel plan for the employment of Indonesian workers aims to simplify the recruitment process and protect the rights of all parties involved in the contractual relationship.

In the past, the contractual relationship was imprecisely enforced. There were only a few recruitment companies that could reach out to Indonesian workers. That is one of the reasons for the decrease in the number of Indonesian workers in the country. The cost of services when hiring Indonesian domestic helpers was unaffordable for most members of society.

The spokesperson said that contracts with Indonesia will only be made through recruitment companies. He added, ‘It will help accelerate the arrival of Indonesian domestic workers, facilitate recruitment procedures and protect the rights of the parties to the contractual relationship, which will increase the diversity of nationalities of domestic workers in the labor market to meet Saudi needs.

Saudi Deputy Minister of Labor Human Resources and Social Development Dr. Notably, Abdullah Abutunin and Indonesia’s Manpower Minister Aida Fauzia signed the jobs last Thursday. As per the agreement, the recruitment is done through recruitment companies with effect from the date of signing of the agreement.

Saudi International Affairs Deputy Minister Dr. The agreement was signed in a ceremony on the island of Bali in the presence of Adnan Al-Naim and other officials. The project comes within the framework of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development to unify the channel to recruit Indonesian domestic workers and facilitate the recruitment process from Indonesia. It aims to protect the rights of all parties involved in the contractual relationship and to diversify the nationalities of domestic workers to meet the needs and demands of the Saudi labor market.

The signing of the agreement is the result of a concerted effort to overcome the crisis related to the recruitment of domestic workers after a gap of 11 years. Indonesia suspended sending domestic workers to Saudi Arabia and other countries in the region in 2011 following the execution of a domestic worker for murdering her Saudi employer. Later, Indonesia agreed with Saudi and other Middle East countries to send domestic workers but their arrival was delayed in the wake of Covid.
