44 arrested in Istanbul on charges of espionage against Palestinians

44 people were arrested on suspicion of collaborating with the Mossad. The suspects were arrested through a “special operation against military espionage” carried out by the Turkish Intelligence Service in coordination and cooperation with the Istanbul Police, after they identified and tracked the transfer of information about Palestinian figures to the Mossad in exchange for money.

Among those arrested is Ismail Itimaglu, The founding president of the Special Investigations Association, established in 2007. Turkey claims that efforts are ongoing to arrest 13 more suspects who are still on the run and whose identities are known to the authorities.

The suspects were arrested on suspicion of espionage for the benefit of the Israeli Mossad by monitoring individuals, institutions and non-governmental organizations.

Turkish authorities are investigating Istanbul-based “consulting firms” that have been offering private investigation services to their clients for some time through their ties to the Israeli agency. The Mossad allegedly paid suspects to conduct surveillance on Palestinians and their non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in Turkey.

The sale opened at the beginning of the week. The statements of the suspects investigated so far revealed that their work helped the Mossad launch online campaigns of slander and threats against Palestinians.

The Turkish police, in collaboration with MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), in recent years exposed a series of espionage networks, including one that worked for Russia, and found a plot by Iran to assassinate Israeli citizens in Turkey. The operations also led to the discovery of a story by Iranian intelligence operatives to kidnap Iranian regime opponents who had taken refuge in Turkey.
