A personalized license plate is a license plate whose inscription is chosen by the holder himself. From the name of your loved one, your company to your favorite music band: it’s all possible. You can apply for a license plate in our country for various types of vehicles, such as a passenger car, a motorcycle, a trailer and a vintage car that was put into use more than 25 years ago. These types of license plates are incredibly popular in Belgium. Two municipalities share first place in terms of the number of applications: one is in Flanders, the other in Wallonia. In Flanders, it is not surprising that you have the greatest chance of seeing cars with a personalized license plate in Knokke, for Wallonia this is Lasne in Walloon Brabant.

What are the rules?
A personalized license plate must start with the relief stamp of the DIV, the Vehicle Registration Service. There is also room for eight characters. Your choice cannot only consist of numbers, but must also contain at least one letter. The letters are separated from the numbers by a dash, which is also considered one character. In addition, there are quite a few other rules about the use of certain numbers to prevent confusion with normal license plates. In addition, there is also a blacklist of prohibited combinations. A personalized license plate costs 1,000 euros. This amount is tax deductible for companies.
How can you reserve a personalized license plate?
This can be done via the WebPERSO reservation page. First you have to identify yourself, then you enter the combination of your choice, which will then be checked by the DIV.
