On July 27, at around 4:30 a.m., an earthquake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale was recorded, according to the National Seismological Service (SSN).

According to the agency, the epicenter occurred 27 km southwest of the port of Acapulco, Guerrero, at a depth of 1 km and was felt by local residents.

In Mexico City, the earthquake was not so noticeable, so it did not warrant the alert notice from the Mexican Seismic Alert System.

“SASMEX detected an earthquake that did not warrant an alert because the energy radiated by the tremor during the first few seconds did not exceed activation levels,” reads an information sheet.

However, the Skyalert app alert was activated and indicated that the earthquake that occurred in that town was of moderate intensity.

On the other hand, the governor of Guerrero, Evelyn Salgado Pineda, published on her X-formerly -Twitter – account that no damage was reported due to the earthquake and that the state administration remains in communication with municipal authorities.

“We continue to apply action protocols through @PC_Guerrero, who are in the area, conducting supervision tours. We remain in constant communication with municipal authorities.

It is also important to mention that, according to information from the @SEMAR_mx #Tsunami Alert Center, variations in sea level are NOT expected due to the location of the epicenter,” the Tweet reads.

He also urged the population not to fall for rumours, to review official information and to be alert to possible aftershocks and to remain calm.
