The temple, located in the heart of the capital of Costa Rica, stands out as one of the most emblematic buildings in the country. In 2021, it was declared a national sanctuary due to the large influx of people who come to the site to receive the sacrament of Confession, visit the Blessed Sacrament and raise their prayers to Saint Joseph.

Inside the neoclassical and baroque style temple, whose origin dates back to the 18th century, you can venerate the image located on the altar of San José, which is of Spanish origin and has been preserved since 1926.

The cathedral was declared the country’s Historical Architectural Heritage on May 21, 1998.
