According to current legislation, NOMs must be reviewed every five years from their entry into force.
The National Advisory Committee for Standardization of Disease Prevention and Control (CCNNPCE) is in charge of drafting these documents.
The NOMs are useful for physicians because they allow the standardization of patient care.

The legal part is very important within the field of health and especially the Official Mexican Standards (NOM) are essential for all doctors. They not only contain indications on the correct care for patients, but also function as a defense method against possible negligence lawsuits.

However, a common problem is that many times this issue is not addressed in universities. Therefore students do not know the minimum necessary part and wait until they are professionals to show interest.

But first, what are NOMs?

These are technical regulations of obligatory observance issued by the competent agencies. Their purpose is to establish the characteristics that processes or services must meet when they may constitute a risk to the safety of people or harm human health.

In this sense, one of its functions is to standardize patient care to offer the same service to everyone. While in matters of Prevention and Health Promotion, once approved by the National Advisory Committee for Standardization of Disease Prevention and Control (CCNNPCE)are issued and published in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF) and, as it deals with health matters, they enter into force the day after their publication.

The NOM must be reviewed every five years from its entry into force. The CCNNPCE must analyze and, where appropriate, carry out a study of each NOM when its period expires in the course of the immediately preceding year and, as a conclusion of said review and/or study, it may decide to modify, cancel or ratify them.

That said, there are many documents to read although there are some Basic NOM that all doctors should know. Everything lies in the theme of each one because they focus on the main reasons for consultation that occur in the country.

Some of the most important that exist

Based on all of the above, the nurse Diana Salgado He published a video with five NOMs that any health professional should know and understand before completing their degree, and they are the following:
