Karipur ∙ The police arrested 5 people including the passenger who came to Kozhikode airport with gold and the gang members who came to steal the gold with the knowledge of the passenger. Natuvil A. Muhammad Anees (19) from Kannur Thalipparam native who came from Dubai, K. V. Nias (26) native of Kannur Dharmadam who came from Dubai, MV Girish (31) from Kannur Natuvil, K. Prasad (43) from Thalassery Kathirur, Kiran native of Thalassery. (28) were arrested.
CI P. Shibu said that four others had reached the airport with the knowledge of Anees to steal the gold brought by Anees for someone else. Police recovered 54 grams of gold and two phones worth Rs.1.5 lakh from Anis.
The plan was to steal the gold before handing it over to the people who sent it. Following a tip-off received by the district police chief, the Karipur police arrested the five people near the airport gate. All 5 people who were produced in Mancheri court were remanded.

Ashkar Ali, a native of Wayanad, surrendered before Kozhikode Preventive Customs. Ashkar Ali was produced in Mancheri court and remanded. The gold smuggling was caught on September 15.
