50 ruling party ministers reported missing just before no-confidence motion against Imran Khan

Islamabad: As many as 50 ruling party ministers are reported missing ahead of a no-confidence motion against Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan.

The ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has reported missing 50 ministers, according to The Express Tribune. Ministers are reportedly not seen in public.

Of the missing ministers, 25 are federal-provincial advisers and special assistants.

The ‘disappearance’ of ministers comes at a time when Imran Khan is facing a crisis over the direct success of the no-confidence motion. This has made Khan even more challenging to remain prime minister.

Imran Khan’s supporters include Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Communications Minister Fawad Chaudhry, Energy Minister Hamad Azhar, Defense Minister Pervez Khattak and Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid.

Earlier, it was reported that 24 MPs from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had withdrawn their support for Imran Khan and publicly announced that they would vote against Imran Khan in the resolution.

In the 342-member Pakistan National Assembly, a majority of 172 members is required to prove a majority. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is currently ruling the country with the support of allies.

Meanwhile, the vote on the no-confidence motion against the Imran Khan government has been postponed to March 28.

Opposition parties have stated they will not run in the by-elections if the no-confidence motion is passed.

Shehbaz Sharif, the brother of former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and president of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), is set to be nominated for the PM’s job.

Leading opposition leaders Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Asif Zardari and Shahbaz Sharif led the no-confidence motion on March 8.

The main criticism leveled by the opposition is that Imran Khan, as Prime Minister, has failed to control the country’s economy and curb inflation.
