The first dystopian masterpiece of modern cinema

These days we are celebrating the 50th anniversary of Stanley Kubrick’s most scandalous and controversial film: “A Clockwork Orange”. For the occasion, Warner Bros has authorized a return to the big screen. The film is inspired by the novel “A Clockwork Orange” by Anthony Burgess in 1962. The film tells the adventures of Alex Delarge, played by Malcolm McDowell, and his Drughi, set in a London of the immediate future. The “premiere” in New York of Kubrick’s ninth opera takes place on 19 December 1971. Immediately it did not give the director and producers the desired satisfaction but then recorded a record collection (114 million dollars worldwide). Glory came with the 1972 Venice Film Festival and then with four Oscar nominations. “A Clockwork Orange” receives endless nominations, but no major prizes, with the exception of the Silver Ribbon obtained in 1973. The most shocking and revolutionary message lies in the lawful exercise of violence and cruelty in the name of a law by the protagonist. It causes scandal, is forbidden to minors under the age of 18 and becomes a “taboo” for televisions. In Italy we have to wait until 2007 to see it on a generalist network and still today the vision arouses controversy. Many references and citations: in music, in comics, in the cinema itself, in youth society and in stadium ultras cheering with the “Bianconeri Drughi”.
