The iconic “One Times Square” building located in a square of the same name in New York, which is best known for the fall of the ball in the countdown on New Year’s Eve, will undergo a comprehensive renovation with an investment of about $ 500 million. Despite the famous look of the building from the outside, the inside is actually almost empty of visitors.

“This is the center of America’s universe,” Mayor Eric Adams said Friday as he announced a major $ 500 million renovation project to create a Times Square Visitor Center. The project will be the center to welcome the public inOne Times Square For the first time.

The plan calls for the modernization of the building and making it more accessible – all while allowing people to really enjoy it. The famous building was built in 1904, and briefly served as the headquarters of the New York Times. The real estate company Jamestown bought the building in the 90s and now plans to rent 12 floors for branded stores – building commercial spaces with virtual and augmented reality technologies.

Michael Phillips, president of real estate firm Jamestown, said the plan was intended to “relocate the building at the intersection of the digital environment ahead.” Visitors have a bird’s eye view of the “Crossroads of the World”.

“The eyes of the world are on Times Square on New Year’s Eve, but even this year it’s a bustling area in our city center,” said Representative Jerry Nadler (D-NY). The ambitious plan will also include renovations to the Times Square subway station under the building. However, the expected construction will not interfere with the New Year’s Eve celebrations. The renovations are expected to take several years, with an expected opening in the summer of 2024.
