Also in 2023, the NCT run has set a worldwide online community in motion. Between July 7th and 9th, 5,080 runners took to the track at 1,000 starting locations on all seven continents for a good cause. 66,500 kilometers of joint mileage came together.

Dirk Jäger, Managing Director at the NCT Heidelberg and Head of Medical Oncology at the University Hospital Heidelberg (UKHD), says: “Thank you very much to all participants. Through their participation and especially through their donations, they support the work at the NCT Heidelberg very significantly. That is a great effort for the benefit of our patients.”

Because of the outstanding commitment on a very hot running weekend, the main sponsor SAP rewards the team performance of all runners with the total donation amount of 30,000 euros, although the ambitious goal of 100,000 kilometers running together was not reached. Through further donations, the NCT run reached a donation result of 70,000 euros. The funds benefit innovative projects for applied cancer research at the NCT Heidelberg.

Stefan Fröhling, Managing Director at the NCT Heidelberg and Head of Translational Medical Oncology at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ), says: “It’s great that the NCT run has once again excited participants on all seven continents. The NCT Lauf has a triple positive impact by getting people moving, bringing awareness to innovative, applied cancer research, and raising funds for this important cause.”
