51 killed, 24 injured in Colombian prison riot fire- Dinamani

A prison fire in the western Colombian city of Tulua has left 51 prisoners dead after a fire broke out. 24 people were injured.

According to Colombian Justice Minister Wilson Ruiz

The fire broke out at a prison in the city of Tulua in southwestern Colombia.

Riots broke out between inmates inside the jail early Tuesday morning. Some inmates have since set fire. The fire spread to several rooms of the Malamalavena prison.

Unable to control the situation, the fire department was notified. Firefighters rushed to the scene and put out the blaze.

Meanwhile, 51 prisoners could not escape from the prison and were burnt to death. Also, 24 people were injured.

The injured were admitted for treatment nearby. Relatives of the victims have been protesting the looting of the jail.

Police are investigating.
