Goma, March 25th2023, (CPA). – 52 deaths, including 5 women, mostly due to diarrhoea, were recorded in the sites of Bulengo in the Lac-vert district and Lushagala in Mugunga, during the period from March 4th to 22ndaccording to a report by the urban coordinator of humanitarian civil protection, a copy of which was received by CPA on Friday.

« From the sites where war displaced people from different villages in the territories of Rutshuru, Masisi and Nyiragongo are found, the deceased are in the age group of 3 to 65 years and give up the ghost in the health areas of Alleluia and Mugunga, » the report says.

In addition to diarrhoea due to lack of latrines, other causes of death include drowning, childbirth, fatigue, malaria, tuberculosis and blood pressure, the report says.

Currently, the cemetery of the town hall is already saturated, so the urban authority has sent a letter of request for a ten-hectare plot of land to the provincial authority, to make a cemetery.

As for the latrines, revealed the urban coordinator of civil protection, the humanitarians, MSF-France, have drilled about ten holes to build latrines in order to reduce the number of deaths related to diarrhoea. CPA/
