Pernod Ricard Korea announced on the 28th that it will be launching ‘Royal Salute Time Chamber by Conrad Shawcross’, the top product of the whisky brand Royal Salute. This is a limited edition 53-year-old whisky of 21 pieces worldwide, produced in collaboration with British artist ‘Conrad Shawcross’, and only 1 piece will be distributed domestically. The price is over 100 million won.

Royal Salute has been carrying out the ‘Art of Wonder’ art collaboration project since 2022. It is a way to present high-age whisky in collaboration with the most outstanding artists of the time. It is intended to pay homage and tribute to artistic design, a field of infinite creativity and innovation. Last year, it presented a 53-year-old whisky in collaboration with another British artist, Kate Maguire, and this Royal Salute Time Chamber is the second collaboration.

Through collaborations in the arts, Royal Salute aims to convey the unique value of high-age whisky in an innovative and creative way. It is also noteworthy that limited edition whiskies are presented in conjunction with art exhibitions held in Korea to bring the project and the spirit of limited edition whiskies to life.

The second protagonist of the Royal Salute Art of Wonder project, Conrad Shawcross, is said to be the youngest member of the Royal Academy of Arts in London and an artist known for his innovative works that cross the boundaries of science, philosophy, and art. He is characterized by expressing abstract theories and phenomena through physical sculptures or installations.

This collaboration with Royal Salute was also inspired by abstract time and realized as a physical work. It is said that Conrad Shawcross personally visited the Royal Salute distillery in Strath Islay, Scotland, and experienced the maturation process of high-age whisky. Inspired by the effect of time on the quality and flavor of whisky, he completed a time chamber composed of several art pieces. The work Time Chamber is used as a bottle to hold whisky. The main body is made of a handcrafted glass bottle. It symbolizes the star system of the endless night sky. The spin and arrow-shaped crystal decanter that penetrates the center express the vector of time, which means directionality.

This finished product was reborn as a limited edition Royal Salute ultra-luxury whisky by adding 53-year-old whisky, which signifies the peak of time. The 53-year-old whisky, the highest age among Royal Salute products, commemorates 1953, when Royal Salute whisky was dedicated to the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II of England. Master blender Sandy Hyslop personally selected and blended whiskies aged for at least 53 years across Scotland. Royal Salute introduced it as characterized by rich berry fruit flavors, sweet walnut flavors, and toasted oak flavors.

Miguel Pascual, Executive Director of Marketing at Pernod Ricard Korea, said, “Through the Art of Wonder project, Royal Salute is expanding its brand territory by reinterpreting the efforts and time of artisans involved in producing long-aged whisky from an artist’s perspective and presenting a new genre in the field of art.” He continued, “Following the first collaboration, we expect this second Time Chamber to provide new enjoyment and inspiration to whisky lovers around the world, luxury consumers who enjoy fine art, and art collectors.”

Royal Salute Time Chamber Edition will be unveiled to Korean consumers for the first time at KIAF Seoul 2024, which will be held at COEX in Samseong-dong, Seoul from September 5 to 8, starting with a VIP preview on September 4. KIAF Seoul, which is attended by leading domestic and international galleries every year, is one of the top three art fairs in Korea. Frieze Seoul 2024, a domestic event of the global art fair, will also be held alongside KIAF Seoul.

Royal Salute will also be exhibiting the brand’s regular lineup, including the newly designed ‘Royal Salute 62 Gun Salute’ along with the Time Chamber Edition, as well as limited edition fashion and polo lifestyle collections. The Royal Salute 21 Year Old lineup will be sold by the glass at the venue.
