54 inmates from Mexico City transferred to federal prisons

Under strict security measures, 54 inmates in penitentiary centers from Mexico City were transferred to federal prisons.

Coming from the North, East, South prisons, the Penitentiary, Santa Martha Acatitla and the Men’s Penitentiary Security Center, the inmates were transferred to Federal Social Rehabilitation Centers (Ceferesos) in four states.

Three inmates were transferred by land to Cefereso number 1 Altiplano, while 17 were taken to Cefereso number 12, in Guanajuato, from the Felipe Angeles International Airport (AIFA); 18 to Cefereso number 18, in Coahuila; and 16 to Cefereso number 11, in Sonora.

“With these transfers, we contribute to depressurizing the prisons of Mexico City, guaranteeing governability and favoring the conditions of social rehabilitation of people deprived of liberty,” the agency reported. Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC).

The transfer of the inmates was coordinated between the Undersecretary of the Penitentiary System, the National Guard and the Secretariat of Public Safety and Citizen Protection (SSPC).

“The actions were carried out through a strict security deployment, in collaboration with local and federal authorities, in compliance with human rights protocols,” the SSC said.
