by times news cr

The 5+5 Military Committee confirmed that it was not tasked with unifying the military establishment and does not have the powers and capabilities necessary to expel mercenaries and foreign forces from the country.

The committee added in its statement following a meeting in the city of Sirte that the expulsion of mercenaries and foreign fighters and the inclusion of armed groups are within the powers of the executive bodies of the state, noting that the city of Sirte is the permanent and exclusive headquarters for their meetings until the end of their missions.

The committee also confirmed that the ceasefire agreement is stable and the committees supervising the implementation of the agreement are continuing their work on an ongoing basis, and there is no truth to the rumours that they have abandoned their duties.

Regarding the political situation, the committee noted that it will announce its position in the coming days on the state of division and its impact on the ceasefire and national security.

For her part, the Acting Head of the United Nations Mission in Libya, Stephanie Khoury, described the committee’s meeting as “positive,” stressing the international community’s support for its efforts.

Khoury said in press statements that the goal of the meeting is to strengthen the ceasefire and help stability in Libya, and that building the state requires Libyans to be united for stability and to end the crisis in the country.
