The city of Lyon, Creative City of Digital Arts since 2008, has been granted the status of Creative City of Literature, following its request to change its creative scope.
The newly designated cities will collaborate with Network members to strengthen their resilience in the face of changing threats, such as climate change, increasing inequalities and rapid urbanization, considering that 68% of the world’s population is expected to live in areas urban by 2050[3].
“The cities in our Creative Cities Network are leading the way in improving access to culture and harnessing the power of creativity for urban resilience and development,” said Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO.
A document entitled “The added value of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network at local, national and international levels” will be published soon, highlighting the leadership role played by cities in achieving the 2030 Agenda. It will also show how UNESCO supports UCCN members by promoting dialogue, peer learning and collaboration.
The newly designated Creative Cities are invited to participate in the 2024 UCCN Annual Conference, which will take place from July 1 to 5 in Braga, Portugal, under the theme “Bringing Youth to the table for the next decade” ( “Incorporate youth into the discussion for the next decade”)
