59 lakh units of electricity: Tamil Nadu urgent purchase Dinamalar

by time news

The Tamil Nadu Electricity Board has purchased 59 lakh units of electricity the day before yesterday due to the decrease in wind power. The electricity available from the board’s own stations is not enough to meet the daily electricity demand of Tamil Nadu. Thus, electricity is purchased from central government companies and private companies.

Balance

Apart from this, electricity is also procured from the electricity market called ‘India Energy Exchange’ to meet the peak power demand in the morning and evening.
The market is managed by the Power System Operation Corporation under the Central Power Department. The Tamil Nadu Electricity Board was banned from the 19th of this month due to non-payment of dues to the companies that purchased the electricity. After paying the amount quickly, the ban on buying electricity was lifted from the night of 20th.

However, due to seasonality, more than 8 crore units of electricity are available from wind farms every day. Due to the rains in many districts for a week, the demand for electricity has also decreased. As a result, Tamil Nadu has met its electricity demand, and since 23rd, the Electricity Board has been selling the surplus electricity in the electricity market in the amount of 20 lakh units – 30 lakh units.

Wind power

In this case, the day before yesterday, suddenly, only 1.45 crore units of electricity was available from the wind farms. Also, due to high availability of wind power, there was a delay in starting production in some units of the thermal power plants that had stopped production. Due to this, it was difficult to meet the power demand especially in the evening. After this, 59.26 lakh units of power have been purchased from the power market that day.
