New Delhi: The Cellular Operators Association has protested that there is no justification for allocating 5G spectrum directly to private companies.
The auction of 5G spectrum in India was announced in the Union Budget this year. The work is being carried out by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, Troy. Meanwhile, the Cellular Operators Association, of which Airtel, Geo and Vodafone Idea are members, has already called for a reduction in bids for 5G spectrum. The federal government is considering offering the spectrum directly to corporate entities such as Tata Consultancy Services.
In this case, they have the full potential to cater to the customer’s needs at a reasonable price and do not need to allocate spectrum directly to private companies. Thus affecting the revenue of licensed service companies and not creating an equal domain. They also say that it will give an unnecessary advantage to the private sector in the state treasury.
According to a statement issued by the Cellular Operators Association of India: –
Despite any technological advancement, we firmly believe that there is no justification for allocating spectrum directly to private companies. Licensed companies are fully capable of delivering all personalized solutions at competitive and reasonable prices, including MTM / Services.
We request that you do not book or revoke any identified or identifiable bandwidth for the use of international mobile telecommunications business services for private companies. This is to the detriment of the private sector at the expense of the state exchequer. ‘

While the spectrum auction is already delayed, the clash between private companies and telecom companies is said to be further delaying the 5G spectrum auction.
Troy submitted its recommendation to the Digital Communications Commission on May 17 for approval. This has not yet been approved by the Cabinet. It is worth noting that it usually takes 45 days from the date of approval to start the auction.
