India’s Koneru Hampi placed 5th in the women’s section of the World Blitz Chess Championship. Vaishali finished 14th and finished the race.
Hampi scored 11.5 points and Vaishali 10.5 points in 17 rounds of the tournament in Wassa, Poland. In all, Humpy has 10 wins, 3 draws and 4 defeats. Vaishali has 10 wins, one draw and 6 defeats.
Among other Indian athletes, Vandika Agaval was 30th with 9.5 points and Padmini Routh was 55th with 8.5 points.
Open Division: At the end of a total of 21 rounds in the Open Division of the Blitz Championship, India’s Vidi Gujarati finished 18th with 13 points. Ava won 10 rounds, drew 6 rounds and lost 5 rounds.
Another Indian, Nihal Sarin, finished 19th with 13 points. Ava won 9 rounds, drew 8 rounds and lost 4 rounds. Among other Indians, Ajun Erikaichi and Kukesh were ranked 24th and 32nd respectively with 12.5 points each. Hsha Bharatkodi finished 68th with 11 points.
Harikrishna, Raunak Satwani and Mitraba Kuha finished 84th, 86th and 89th respectively with 10.5 points each. Sunildath Narayanan was 112th with 10 points, while Abhimanyu Puranic and Aditya Mittal were 131st and 141st respectively with 9 points each. Sankalp Gupta finished 150th with 8.5 points.
Champions: In the women’s event, Kazakhstan’s Bibisara Asubayeva became the champion with 14 points, followed by Russia’s Alexandra Kostenyuk with 12.5 points and Valentina Kunina from the same country with 12 points.
In the Open category, France’s Maxim Vacchia became the champion with 15 points, followed by Poland’s Jane Christoph Duda and France’s Alrisa Frizza with 2nd and 3rd places respectively.
