6.3 magnitude earthquake in Taiwan

(Web Desk) Taiwan was once again shaken by an earthquake, a magnitude 6.3 earthquake was recorded in the eastern region of Taiwan.

According to the news agency, strong tremors of the earthquake were recorded at 2:30 in the morning in the eastern county of Hualien, Taiwan. Buildings in the capital city of Taipei were shaken by the earthquake. According to the Taiwan Seismological Center, the depth of the earthquake was 5.5 km, but no immediate casualties were reported.

These earthquakes are part of the aftershocks of the earthquake that occurred on the 4th of this month, which was declared the most severe earthquake in Taiwan’s 25-year history, but many years of preparation prevented a major disaster.

On April 4, Taiwan was shaken by a 7.4-magnitude earthquake, 9 people were killed and many buildings were damaged in the earthquake.

It should be remembered that Taiwan, like its neighboring country Japan, is geographically located in a region that is more active in terms of earthquakes and this place is also called the ‘Ring of Fire’.

Taiwan has had codes and regulations for the construction of buildings with earthquakes in mind for many years, which are periodically revised.

Earlier in the year 1999 there was a 7.6 magnitude earthquake in which twenty four hundred people died.
