Bill Murray stars in the six-part travel documentary series A Course Called Ireland, premiering globally on October 25, 2026, across streaming and television networks. The show follows the actor and author Tom Coyne as they travel across the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland playing legendary golf courses.
Bill Murray and Tom Coyne Hit Irish Links
The upcoming six-part documentary series A Course Called Ireland reunites Bill Murray with the sport decades after his role in Caddyshack. Inspired by author Tom Coyne’s bestselling book of the same name, the series follows the two friends as they travel across the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, playing rounds at the country’s most remarkable golf courses.
Upon discovering they held identical views regarding the top golf tracks in Ireland, Murray picked up Coyne’s publication, provided an enthusiastic review, and thereby sparked the creation of the venture. This leisurely excursion pairs picturesque views with camaraderie and comedy, utilizing the scenic Irish terrain as a backdrop. Across the six 30-minute episodes, Murray and his companions take on some of Ireland’s most memorable courses while also going off course to enjoy the craic, local characters and unexpected moments that come with the journey. Instead of heading to a scheduled pub as planned in the script, Murray wanders off to a local folk music gathering during one segment, only to come back later and spearhead a boozy singalong among the patrons. The series also features a segment where Murray and Coyne go road bowling in Cork.
Production took the cast and crew to destinations including Donegal. In County Donegal, the group played at Cruit Island Golf Club, visited Eddie Doherty’s Handwoven Tweeds in Ardara, and stayed overnight at Lough Eske, as Donegal Daily reported. Murray had previously been spotted filming in Ardara in September 2025 while travelling around Ireland for the production.
Stars Join the Irish Road Trip
Alongside Murray and Coyne, the travelogue features appearances from Murray’s brothers, Joel and John, alongside a string of celebrity guests. Actor Chris O’Dowd, Joanne McNally, and former NFL star Jason Kelce all join the journey across the Irish links. During the production, Murray interacts with various locals and figures, including encounters at Cruit Island and visits with local shopkeepers.

The series is co-produced by independent production company Stellify Media and Skydance Sports, with funding from Northern Ireland Screen. Rather than focusing exclusively on golf, the episodes capture unscripted road-trip moments, local characters, and music.
