Shooting at the July 4 celebrations in the United States: Six people were killed and more than 20 were injured today (Thursday) by gunfire during a parade held in Highland Park, a suburb north of Chicago, Illinois. The Foreign Ministry updated that there is information about Jewish casualties in the incident.

According to local reports, about 25 bullets were fired at the celebrants. A manhunt is underway for the shooter, who is apparently being fortified in a nearby building. The weapon he used was found on the roof of a building after the shooting. This is an area where a large Jewish community lives. Police said the suspect was Robert “Bobby” Crimo III. He is still wanted and considered armed and dangerous to the public. Crimo, 22, drives a silver Honda.

A White House statement read: “President Biden and his wife Jill are shocked by this irrational gun violence, which once again brings grief to an American community on Independence Day.”

Prime Minister Yair Lapid tweeted on his Twitter account following the incident: “I was shocked to hear the news from Highland Park, where a day of celebration has become a day of tragedy. My thoughts are with the families of the victims and the entire American people. Today, as always, Israel stands with our American friends.”
Defense Secretary Benny Gantz asked for condolences to the families of those killed and tweeted in English on his Twitter account: “On the day that was supposed to be festive, my thoughts are with the American people after the terrible attack in Chicago. We in Israel stand by you.”
