British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak met Daithi Mac Gabhann, a 6-year-old boy awaiting a heart transplant, to present him with the Points of Light award during an event at the Culloden hotel in Belfast on Wednesday. fair (13).

Daithi received the award after his family’s efforts to change the transplant law resulted in a new organ donation law for Northern Ireland, which brings the country in line with the rest of the UK. The law was named after the little boy.

The law states that, starting in June, all adults will be considered potential organ donors, unless they opt out or are part of an excluded group.

Sunak says one of the joys of his job is getting to know exceptional people, just like Daithi Mac Gabhann. He further added that Daithi’s Law will save countless lives.

“The bravery and determination you have shown in campaigning to change the law on organ donation in Northern Ireland is truly inspiring. With Daithi’s Law, you are helping others in your situation to get the help they need to change their lives. It’s a great achievement.”

Daithi was accompanied to the award ceremony by his parents and younger brother. During the conversation with the British leader, the two spoke about Ireland’s rugby victory over England and football.
