The city dwellers have suffered due to several hours of rain in the capital Dhaka, water has accumulated on various roads. Although the suffering of the weekend is less, the students and the people who are out for various jobs are in the water in irony. According to the Meteorological Office, a total of 60 millimeters of rain fell in Dhaka in these three hours or 180 minutes from 6 am to 9 am.
On Friday (July 12), torrential rains have accumulated on the roads of Green Road, Mirpur, Dhanmondi, Banani, Mohammadpur, Malibag-Mogbazar, Bashundhara residential area, Banglamotor, Badda, Azimpur, Shantinagar areas of the capital. Among them, water is knee-deep in almost all the alleys, including Dhanmondi 27, Green Road, Mirpur and the main roads of Moghbazar area. Pedestrians suffered on the one hand, while private cars and CNG-powered auto-rickshaws got stuck in the middle of the road with water entering their engines.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has predicted thunderstorms with a maximum speed of 60 km over 20 districts of the country. A warning issued for the country’s inland river ports till 1pm on Friday (July 12) stated this fear.
At the same time, it has been reported that there may be rain or thunder. The river ports in these areas have been asked to display warning signal number 1. Light to moderate rain or thundershowers with temporary gusty winds may occur over most parts of the country till evening. Also, there may be heavy to very heavy rainfall in some parts of the country. The Met Office also said that the trend of rain may continue for a few days.
Meanwhile, even though today is a weekly public holiday, private employees or working people who have gone out of the house to earn a living, have suffered the most. But above all the candidates who appeared for the 18th teacher registration written examination had to suffer the most. In the morning rain, they had to face the same problem due to lack of vehicles. After the exam, we have to get out in the water.
According to the Meteorological Department, there may be more rain across the country today. Rain may reduce again tomorrow from Saturday.
Cox’s Bazar received the highest amount of rain in the country on Thursday. 309 mm of rainfall was recorded in the beach town. Cox’s Bazar due to heavy rain caused landslides. Four people including women and children have died.
Apart from this, the Meteorological Department has recorded 219 mm rainfall in Chittagong’s Sandwip. At the same time, warnings of landslides have been issued in Chittagong and Chittagong Hill Tracts. Apart from this, the danger of new floods has been expressed in North Bengal including Sylhet.
