60,000 homes to rebuild

The earthquake that occurred in Morocco on the night of September 8 to 9 in the province of Al-Haouz south of Marrakech, left 2,946 dead and 5,674 injured, according to the last official report from mid-September.

The catastrophe damaged some 60,000 homes in nearly 3,000 villages in the High Atlas and surrounding areas.

Morocco announced a budget of 120 billion dirhams (around 11 billion euros) for reconstruction. It should benefit 4.2 million inhabitants over five years.

In total, 530 schools and 55 boarding schools were damaged. Around 6,000 students have already been transferred to boarding schools in Marrakech, according to authorities.
