The 61-day fishing ban in Tamil Nadu will come into effect from midnight today due to the breeding season of the fish. Under the Tamil Nadu Marine Fisheries Regulation Act, 1983 and amended Rules 2020 to augment and conserve fish stocks, the trawlers and bait / trawlers will be banned from fishing in the eastern coastal areas annually for 61 days from 15th April to 14th June (including two days). There was a 45-day fishing ban from April 15 to May 29 each year. In this case, the 45 – day ban has been extended to 61 days from last year. Accordingly, the 61-day fishing ban will come into effect from tomorrow to June 14. In this regard, it has been informed that the ban will be in force from Tiruvallur to Kanyakumari on the east coast of Tamil Nadu. It has been reported that fishing with key boats and trawlers is not allowed these days.
However, it is said that country boats can go out to sea to fish as usual. Due to the absence of restrictions in Kerala, some Tamil Nadu fishermen have gone fishing there.
