The 62-year-old Italian Stefano Emilio Garini from the city of Novara killed his mother two years ago and hid her body in order to receive her pension in her place. According to the Carabinieri, he cut the corpse into pieces and buried it in the park next to the Ticino River in San Martino di Trecate.

Authorities arrested Garini for the murder of 1933-born Liliana Agnani after a long and convoluted investigation coordinated by two Novara prosecutors. According to Il fato Quotidiano, they started the investigation in October 2022 after human bones were found in a park in Ticino. Between two of the vertebrae was a fixed prosthesis that was perfectly preserved despite the passage of time. The manufacturer’s make and serial number were clearly visible on it, which allowed authorities to identify the victim. Thanks to these data, the Carabinieri reached the Galeazzi Hospital in Milan, where the prosthesis was placed. After checking the lists of people who were given this type of medical materials, it became clear that it was a question of seven patients. Up to six of them the carabinieri easily reached The seventh patient, Liliana Agnani, who lived in Milan, was not found, however.

The investigators contacted the woman’s family doctor and he asked her son to examine her. However, the man answered rather evasively and said that he could not organize a meeting because his mother was staying with a cousin in the town of Rovigo. However, the investigators’ check revealed it is clear that the cousin in question died years ago. After that, it was also found out that Garini’s daughter lived in Liliana’s house. She told the carabinieri that her grandmother had died, but she did not know the details of her death and burial. According to her father, the woman died in the hospital and was cremated.

After the bones found in the forest were analyzed and compared with the results of the analyzes of Liliana when she was last admitted to a hospital in Milan, it became clear that the remains of the corpse found belonged to Agnani. For two years, her son, who generally worked in a real estate agency, received not only his mother’s pension, but also social benefits in her name from the municipality of Milan.
