This flagship event, carrying deep meanings, constitutes an opportunity for the Moroccan people and the family of the resistance and the liberation army to commemorate a glorious epic of the national struggle against foreign occupation and to reaffirm their constant mobilization in favor of the territorial integrity of the Kingdom.
This visit was a clear expression of the symbiosis between the Moroccan people and the glorious Alawite Throne for the recovery of independence and its plundered territories, underlines a press release from the High Commission for former resistance fighters and former members of the liberation army.
It is also an opportunity to reiterate the constant mobilization of the Moroccan people for the consecration of national achievements and the defense of the territorial integrity of the Kingdom, as well as its attachment to the Moroccan initiative for the autonomy of the southern provinces.
This communion was illustrated by the late HM Mohammed V, during his speech to the Moroccan people delivered before the inhabitants of M’hamid El Ghizlane, in which the late Sovereign said: “We solemnly proclaim that we will continue our action for the return of our Sahara within the framework of respect for our historical rights and according to the will of its inhabitants.”
Similarly, the late HM Hassan II had explained, in a speech delivered during his visit to M’hamid El Ghizlane on April 11, 1981, the significance of his august father’s visit, as well as the deep historical significance of this glorious national event.
Upon his return from exile on November 16, 1955, and after the proclamation of Morocco’s independence, the late HM Mohammed V affirmed his determination to rebuild the national entity on the basis of the integration of the country’s regions and provinces and the annihilation of the chimerical borders inherited from colonization.
Just a few days before his visit to Ouarzazate and Zagora, the late HM Mohammed V had delivered a speech in Arbaoua on 16 February 1958 in which he noted that “Our symbolic visit shows that the north and the south will remain only geographical concepts to give way to a unified Morocco”.
This event thus embodies both the age-old bonds of allegiance between the Moroccan Sovereigns and the populations of these dear regions of the country as well as the solidity of the sacred pact which has always linked the glorious Alaouite Throne to the Moroccan people.
The inhabitants of the southern regions of the Kingdom have always demonstrated an unwavering attachment to their religion, homeland and King, while showing their willingness, like their compatriots in the other regions of the Kingdom, to sacrifice and fight against the colonizer.
Also, the battles fought in the south of the country by the liberation army, of which the young Sahrawis were the spearhead, are written in letters of gold on the glorious pages of the history of the national struggle for independence.
The fighting of the liberation army provided an opportunity for the populations of the southern provinces to reiterate their mobilization and their full willingness to sacrifice like their ancestors, who perpetuated the tradition of national struggle, particularly during the battle of Bougafer in 1933.
Morocco reaped the fruits of this tenacious and continuous struggle with the recovery of Tarfaya on April 15, 1958, and Sidi Ifini on June 30, 1969, thanks to the far-sighted policy of the late HM Hassan II, the architect of the Green March in 1975.
Following the path traced by his illustrious ancestors, HM King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, continues the march to defend the territorial integrity of the Kingdom and consecrate the Moroccanness of the southern provinces.
The family of former resistance fighters and former members of the liberation army reiterates, on the occasion of this 65th anniversary, its unwavering attachment to the territorial integrity of the Kingdom, as well as to the Moroccan initiative for autonomy in the southern provinces.
