69 percent turnout in Theni district

In Theni district, 6 municipalities and 22 municipalities have a total turnout of 68.94 per cent. The highest turnout was 87.14 per cent in Boodipuram municipality and 56.36 per cent in Highways municipality. Theni district has 6 municipalities namely Periyakulam, Theni – Allinagaram, Bodi, Chinnamanur, Kambam and Kudalur. Similarly Andipatti, Uthamapalaiyam, Kengwarpatti, Devadanapatti, Vadugapatti, South Coast, Thamaraikulam, Palanichettipatti, Boodipuram, Veerapandi, Bo. There are municipalities. There are 3,36,633 voters in 6 municipalities and 2,78,341 in 22 municipalities for a total of 6,14,974 voters. Out of a total of 513 members in the municipalities, 7 have already been elected without contest. 1,960 candidates are vying for the remaining 506 seats.
Voting started at 7:00 am today and ended in a draw. Voting for corona patients also took place in some places after the polls closed at 5:00 pm. More votes were cast in municipalities than in municipalities.

In 6 municipalities in the district, the turnout was 65.88 per cent and in 22 municipalities it was 72.69 per cent, with an average of 68.94 per cent. Of these, Cuddalore recorded the highest at 70.01 per cent and Theni-Allinagaram at 62.87 per cent. Similarly, the highest turnout was 87.14 per cent in Boodipuram and 56.36 per cent in Highways municipality, which includes hill villages.
Electronic recording machines were sealed by election officials in the presence of candidates and agents after the recording ended in the evening. Following this, work is underway to send electronic voting machines to the respective counting centers under the respective municipalities with proper police protection.
