A tsunami has struck the shores of the Miyazaki region following a 7.1 magnitude earthquake that occurred in Japan.
Following the earthquake, a tsunami warning was immediately issued for areas of the Kyushu and Shikoku islands by the Japanese public broadcaster NHK.
The earthquake struck approximately 20 miles from the coast of Miyazaki, according to the United States Geological Survey.
Initially estimated at 6.9, the Japan Meteorological Agency later revised the magnitude to 7.1.
Nuclear power plant operations in the Kagoshima prefecture remain normal, with no abnormalities reported at the Sendai nuclear power plant.
High-speed train operations on the JR Kyushu line were temporarily suspended following the earthquake, according to the Kyodo agency.
