Jakarta: (www.kvartha.com 14.12.2021) Large earthquake shakes Indonesia The epicenter was reported below the Pacific Ocean floor, however; no tsunami alert was issued. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said waves of up to 1,000 kilometers per hour are possible.
The US Geological Survey said the quake struck at a depth of 18.5 km in the Flores Sea, 100 km north of the Indonesian city of Maumera. No casualties were reported.
One of the previous strongest earthquakes in Indonesia was in 2004. A magnitude 9.1 earthquake off the coast of Sumatra has triggered a tsunami. The tsunami claimed the lives of two lakh people that day.
