Vedanta Chairman Anil Aggarwal has informed that 7 companies have offered to buy the Tuticorin Sterlite plant.

Due to the damage caused by the Sterlite plant owned by Vedanta in Thoothukudi, the people of Thoothukudi staged a protest demanding the permanent closure of the plant. In that way, 13 people died in the police firing during the protest on May 22, 2018.

Following this, the Tamil Nadu government had issued an order to close the Sterlite plant from May 28, 2018. Also, a case is pending in the Supreme Court seeking permission to reopen the plant.

Meanwhile, Vedanta announced last June that it would sell the plant after the government refused to allow it to reopen. Following this, Anil Agarwal, chairman of Vedanta, has informed that 7 companies have offered to buy the Tuticorin Sterlite plant.
