EXCLUSIVE – Stanislas Guerini’s proposal to lift the taboo on lifelong employment for civil servants meets with broad support, while the French expect more efficient public services, according to an Odoxa-Backbone Consulting survey for Le Figaro.
The French do not ridicule “their” civil servants… but 7 out of 10 have the feeling that the quality of public service has tended to deteriorate in recent years, reveals an Odoxa-Backbone Consulting survey for Le Figaro. «These critiques reflect high expectations of public services coupled with negative personal experiences», Indicates Céline Bracq, general director of Odoxa. A feeling of deterioration felt strongly on the right (74%), but also on the left (63%) and at Renaissance (57%). If the French appreciate civil servants, 51% consider that they are not asked to make enough effort.
So when Stanislas Guerini declares that he wants “lift the taboo of dismissal» for public officials who “wouldn’t do their job», the Minister of the Civil Service hits the mark. According to the survey, 72% of French people are in favor of making it easier to dismiss civil servants for “professional insufficiency”…
