70 candidates pass the confidence test within the competition for judges and associate judges of the Supreme Court

The professionals moved on to the competitive examination phase as part of the competition to join the National Court of Justice in Ecuador.

Of the 107 candidates who passed the confidence examination phase, only 70 continue in the Competition for the selection and appointment of Judges and Associate Judges of the National Court of Justice. By October, 10 national judges are expected to be appointed.

The list was approved on July 22, 2024, during the extraordinary session of the plenary session of the Judiciary Council.

A total of 35 legal professionals failed the stage and two did not show up to take the test, so they were excluded from the process.

Applicants by specialty

The report of the candidates who are following the process was approved with the unanimous vote of the members Yolanda Yupangui, Solanda Goyes, Merck Benavides and the president Mario Godoy.

By specialty, the number of applicants is as follows:

Civil and Commercial: 13
Administrative Litigation: 11
Tax Litigation: 10
Family, Childhood, Adolescence and Juvenile Offenders: 8
Criminal, Military Criminal, Police Traffic, Corruption and Organized Crime: 28

Process continues

In the competitive phase, candidates must take a theoretical test and a practical test.

A committee of experts, with 36 lawyers, will be in charge of preparing the question bank for the theoretical test and will present the cases for the practical test.

The phase of citizen challenge and social control will take place between September and October.
