Chennai: The CBCID has informed the Chennai High Court that the 70-year-old man who went missing from the Villupuram Anbu Jyoti Ashram may be dead.

Zubinbaby ran Anbu Jyoti Ashram, a home for the mentally challenged, destitute and differently-abled, at Kundalapuliyur village near Senchi in Villupuram district. In this case, Salim Khan from Tirupur had enrolled his 70-year-old uncle Shabirullah in Anbu Jyoti Ashram before leaving for America.

Salim Khan, through his friend Halideen, told him to visit uncle Shabirullah and inquire about his well-being. Following this, on December 4 last, when Halideen went to Anbu Jyoti Ashram, Shabirullah was not there. Ashram officials said he is at his residence in Bengaluru. But when I went to Bengaluru, I found out that there was no Shabirullah either.

Subsequently, Halideen filed a summons petition in the Madras High Court demanding that Sabirullah be brought back and produced in court. In it, he had demanded, “The concerned Anbu Jyoti House administrators refuse to give details about Shabirullah. If a complaint is filed in this regard, the police department also refuses to accept the complaint.” The High Court heard the case and ordered to file a report on the investigation.

The petition came up for hearing again today before Justice Sundar and Nirmal Kumar. Based on the High Court’s order, a CBCID report was filed regarding Shabirullah’s disappearance case, in which Shabirullah, admitted to Anbu Jyoti Ashram, was sent to a destitute home in Bengaluru. Investigation revealed that he escaped from there.

Also, the dead body of an old man found in front of a mosque at Bhadravati in Bengaluru matches Shabirullah Khan’s identity. The body was cremated according to Islamic tradition and there is photographic evidence of Shabirullah. The petitioner should appear in person and identify himself,” it said.

Subsequently, the judges gave a two-week time to explain the identity of Salim Khan and adjourned the case till March 14. Further, the judges, accepting the information from the police department that eight people belonging to the ashram were taken into custody by the CBCID, were ordered to continue the investigation.
