Chang Kong Cliff Road is a famous cliff hiking road in China. It runs along the edge of Hua Shan Mountain, located near the city of Huayin, 120 km east of Xi’an in Shaanxi Province. Many adventurous travelers come here to walk this trail. Due to its height, the sunrise and sunset from here is a very beautiful view.

The Cliff Road is believed to have been built in the 13th century during the Yuan Dynasty by followers of He Shishen, the first master of the Mount Hua sect of Taoism. It was built to travel in search of the immortal people who they believed lived in the mountains. Mount Hua has had religious significance for centuries. This mountain has five main peaks. The highest of these is the South Peak with a height of 2,154.9 meters.

The pavement is very high in many places. The path is made by joining wooden planks together and placing them on top of iron pegs. Some parts of the pavement are only 30 cm wide. Many parts made of wooden planks are damaged and decayed. Some parts are carved out of the rock itself.

This trail is very popular with adventure travelers. With the installation of the cable car in the 1990s, there has been a huge increase in the number of tourists to the mountain. But many deaths have occurred here. Therefore, those traveling through it now have to wear special safety gear.

After arriving by flight to Xi’an, the area can be reached by a 2-hour bus or car ride through the towns of Weinan and Huai’an. From Huayin, you can take a taxi or walk about 6 km to Hua Shan Mountain.
