“Bulgaria has a successful path in the direction of health tourism. Climate treatment, well known in the recent and distant past, must be developed within this type of tourism,” said the Deputy Minister of Tourism Irena Georgieva in Sveti Vlas. She opened a scientific symposium “Air, sea and climate – health strategies” in the seaside city, which brought together specialist doctors from all over the country, BTA reported.

Health tourism is one of the priorities laid down in the National Strategy for the Development of Sustainable Tourism of Bulgaria, a strategy that is valid and extends over a time horizon until 2030, the Deputy Minister pointed out. She informed that in recent years an increase in the share of health tourism has been reported and it now constitutes approximately 16 percent of the National Tourism Product.

Current data from the beginning of the year to June inclusive show that nearly 716,000 are the registrations of tourists in municipalities in our country that offer spa tourism. According to a nationally representative survey, conducted over two years, almost two million adult Bulgarians have practiced various forms of health tourism – spa, balneo, etc. , which shows the exceptional potential of this specialized type of tourism. The Ministry of Tourism is firmly determined together with non-governmental organizations, with the Bulgarian Association for Balneotourism and Spa, with the local government, with business, with all experts and specialists to continue. The Ministry of Tourism recognizes this type of tourism as an extremely important priority and will continue to support it, said Irena Georgieva.

The guest of the symposium is the general director of BTA Kiril Valchev. BTA is a media partner of the scientific forum that started in Sveti Vlas yesterday.
